The Village continue promotion push with impressive bonus point win over Trefil

The home side started the game well with their physical style of rugby, using a powerful maul to force Markham into giving away a penalty, however the attempt slid wide and the score remained 0-0. Markham threatened through Gareth Price bullying style of running, but were left frustrated by knock on's. The pressure soon told though as a good move from the lineout, and a superb pass from Man of the Match Gareth Price put Dewi Carpenter into loads of space, the centre stepped away from the last defender and finished an excellent move from the away side, the conversion was added for a 7-0 lead.

The away side looked in the mood to score tries, and almost scored a second try after another fast move, a knock on five metres out prevented a great try. The home side responded when they entered the Markham with a powerful driving maul, however fantastic work from the Markham pack created a turnover and Gareth Price went on a busting run before chipping a beautifully weighted kick forward, and Dewi Carpenter had too much pace for the retreating Trefil defenders as he gathered the ball and touched down over the line to give Markham a 12-0 lead, a perfect execution of turning defence into attack. The score seemed to demoralise the home side who were reduced to 14 men after several penalties, Markham took immediate advantage after an excellent pass out wide put Gareth Price into space and he finished easily to increase the lead to 19-0, a big score before half time to give Markham a comfortable lead.

Markham started the second half well and scrum half David Davies continued to distribute the ball really well, he put Gavin Price in space and the captain skipped through a tackle and sprinted under the post for a try and gave a loud roar of delight, showing how important the score was to put Markham in a very safe position. With the bonus point try secured, Markham seemed to switch off a bit and Trefil entered Markham's 22, the defence initially held out well but the home side were persistent and pushed their way over for a try after a solid driving maul. Markham put the blip behind them immediately forcing a mistake from Trefil on the restart. The Village were clinical playing simple rugby as Gareth Price was put into space, and he delicately offloaded to Dewi Carpenter who completed an excellent hat trick.

The Markham pack was having a strong game, with Stefan Evans and Clark Morgan putting the away side on the front foot with powerful runs. Markham was set up in Trefil's 22 once again and once Dewi Carpenter was given space to run into, one side step later he was in for a fourth try of the afternoon. Markham's confidence increased further and further, and Kris Meredith who has been one of the standout players in the last few weeks, went on one of his powerful runs and crashed through a tired defence as Markham continued to rack up the points leading 47-5. To the home sides credit though, they battled away and dominated the final proceedings of the game, trying to use their powerful driving maul on several occasions. The Markham pack showed tremendous effort holding out the Trefil pack and managing to clear their lines, the referee blew the final whistle and Markham could celebrate a thoroughly impressive win, as a showdown for the league title still looks very possible against Deri in May.
